Call for Ideas

Background

The way research is communicated impacts on the effectiveness to arise interest in the audience and to receive feedback and feed forwards from the auditors. As young researchers and students, we are aware of the importance these may have in the progress of our work, particularly when these come from senior and experienced scholars. However, the chances of interacting with senior researchers are either limited or structured in highly-formalised contexts. Borrowing formats now trending in the start-ups area, the workshop will give young and brilliant researchers the chance to discuss their own research projects with selected conference lecturers, allowing them to collect advice and suggestions on how to develop their research works at the end of the preferred session of the workshop. Young researchers will have several ways to benefit from the conference, if accepted:

  • present in a flash talk (3 minutes) their research after the session and receive feedback from the both the speakers and the public;
  • participate in a 2-hour discussion, together with other fellows, in which ideas are presented, shared and discussed with a senior researcher as a facilitator;
  • participate in a hands-on workshop on explainability of AI, led by IBM Research.
  • Submission & Timing

    Young researchers and students who are keen about joining our workshops and/or research pitch sessions can send their application by May 31, 2021, via this application form. We encourage the submission of digital media detailing the research idea, in particular, infographics, 1 PowerPoint slide or a 180-second video/recording. Works should be submitted in English. Selected applicants will be grouped according to the research field and will have 3 minutes to engage in a discussion with an expert scholar in their own topic of interest.

    Submission deadline: 31/05/2021
